Eye Infections
Infections in the eye occur when bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites invade any part of the eye or the surrounding area, such as the eyelids or the conjunctiva (the thin membrane that lines the white of the eye). Eye infections are very common in the U.S. including Pink Eye and Styes.
If you or your child are dealing with any of the symptoms below, our providers at PromptMed Urgent Care are equipped to handle your care.
The cause of an eye infection is dependent on certain habits, environmental exposures, and hygiene practices. Most of which are done often and unknowingly. Eye infections often come from sleeping in your contacts, touching/rubbing the eyes with unwashed hands, sharing contaminated or expired makeup, or exposure to contaminated water. Eye infections can also begin with eye irritation such as smoke or pollen, in turn causing rubbing of the eyes bringing more bacteria to them.
