Vaccines and Immunization
Vaccines work by training the immune system to recognize and fight a specific pathogen (such as a virus or bacterium) without causing the disease itself. The vaccine introduces a harmless part of a pathogen into the body, called an antigen. This antigen is designed to mimic the pathogen closely enough that your body detects it as a threat and once it does, your immune system will respond by activating your white blood cells. Some white blood cells will detect and destroy the antigen; others get to work producing antibodies in response to that exact pathogen. Now, if you are exposed to the actual pathogen, your immune system can recognize it immediately and begin a quicker and stronger defense.
PromptMed Urgent Care carries varying vaccines based on the time of year.
