Rashes
Rashes are an area of irritated or inflamed skin that appears as redness, bumps, patches, or blisters. They can result from allergies, infections, heat, medical conditions, or skin irritants and they can vary widely in appearance and symptoms.
Rashes present in various ways depending on the cause. Here are some common forms of rashes:
- Redness or Inflammation: Generalized redness, often associated with irritation or infection
- Bumps or Pimples: Raised spots, which can be small and uniform (as in chickenpox) or uneven
- Hives (Urticaria): Raised, itchy welts that can appear and disappear quickly
- Blisters: Fluid-filled bumps, often caused by friction, burns, or infections like herpes
- Scaly Patches: Dry, flaky areas that may indicate eczema, psoriasis, or fungal infections
- Crusting or Oozing: Leaking fluid that dries into crusts, often seen in infected or severe rashes
- Itchy Spots: Irritated areas that provoke scratching, common with allergies or insect bites
- Purple or Bruised Areas: May signal bleeding under the skin, such as with petechiae or purpura
- Ring-shaped Rash: Circular patterns, often linked to conditions like ringworm or Lyme disease
- Localized or Widespread: Rashes can appear in specific areas (i.e. contact dermatitis) or cover large parts of the body (i.e. viral rashes)
