Sprains and Strains
When faced with a sprain or strain, it is important to ensure the injury is just that, a sprain or strain. At PromptMed Urgent Care our providers are equipped to handle your care. Treatment for a sprain or strain consists of an evaluation and potential imaging to rule out a broken bone or torn ligament. Then, depending on what the injury calls for, follows pain management and preventative immobilization with a boot or a splint, if necessary. Every PromptMed Urgent Care is stocked with boots and splints for their patients’ aid.
At home care for mild sprains or strains (R.I.C.E. method)
- Rest: avoid using the injured area
- Ice: apply ice packs for 15-20 minutes every few hours
- Compression: use an elastic bandage to reduce swelling
- Elevation: keep the injured area raised above the heart level
If you or a loved one feel they may be experiencing a sprain, strain, or broken bone, come to PromptMed Urgent Care. Walk-ins are always welcome.
